How to Find the Right Tire Size for Your Car, Truck or SUV

Buying the right size is the most important step when ordering tires online. Here are three reliable ways to find yours.

1. Read your current tires

The size is printed on the sidewall, in a format like 225/65R17. Our guide to reading a tire size explains each number.

2. Check the door-jamb sticker

Open the driver's door and look for the tire and loading placard. It lists the size the manufacturer installed, plus the correct pressure.

3. Search by vehicle

On tread4life.com you can search by year, make and model, or by license plate, and see the factory sizes that fit.

Trim levels matter

Many models offer different wheel sizes by trim. A base trim might use 16-inch wheels while the top trim uses 18 or 19. Always confirm against your current tires if you have not changed the wheels.

Can I change sizes?

Small changes are possible, such as a plus-one wheel upgrade, but the overall diameter should stay within about 3% of the original so the speedometer stays accurate. If you are unsure, ask before ordering.
